Soft Wheel Casters
The Miele S7 uprights are really a canister vacuum on an upright handle. They put the same high suction powered motor in their S7 uprights as they do in their canister vacuums. The S7 uprights have a switch at your fingertips for the carpet motor that turns the revolving brush on and off. You can then easily turn the brush off to vacuum hard floors with just the suction of the vacuum and they put swivel caster soft rubber wheels on the front of the nozzle so it pivots around. What people really like is that the base of the vacuum swivels making maneuverability of going around furniture and going underneath beds and coffee tables unique for an upright. Locking the upright handle is the upright position allows for the hose to be taken off the vacuum and used for all above floor cleaning needs. The hose extends with the wands to 20 feet in length so even stair cleaning is enhanced.
With a lot of multi level homes and the multiple types of surfaces that are prevalent in newer homes, the Miele is a wise choice. The only negative I feel is the handle weight. With having a powerful canister motor in the upright handle and all the on board tools, the weight of the handle is more than many other vacuums. It surprisingly pushes easily on most types of carpets so it is not hard to push at all but over a large house the weight of the handle might not suit everyone.
Miele is primarily sold in independent vacuum stores that allow you to push and try the vacuums they sell on various floor and carpeted surfaces. Seek out a "mom and pop" locally owned vacuum store and try out the Miele or if it is not the right vacuum for your home, they will be able to guide you to what is best designed for your home.
